Education

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a licensed private practice in Kamloops, B.C., providing counselling services to youth, adults, couples, and families. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria, as well as a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Physical Education Degree from the University of British Columbia, specializing in Family and Nutritional Sciences.

Experience

For over 20 years, I have been working as an educator and counsellor in the field of helping relationships, initially working as a high school teacher and then as a counsellor supporting youth and their families on many different levels, some of which include anxiety/panic disorder, child abuse (trauma), social phobia, depression, suicide ideation, substance use, grief and loss, peer relations, bullying, self-esteem, sexuality, parent/teen conflict, severe behaviour problems, learning/motivational difficulties and career/educational exploration.

My counselling experience further includes working with individuals, couples and families in the Family Counselling Centre of Interior Community Services in Kamloops, B.C. As a therapist, I have worked with clients experiencing a variety of mental health and relationship concerns, such as anxiety, mood disorders, post-partum depression, child abuse (trauma), substance abuse, eating disorders, life transitions, parent/child relationships, parent/child attachment, parent/teen conflict, co-parenting struggles, parenting of young children and adolescence, marriage counselling, communication and trust concerns.

From a relationship perspective, I believe that we have a strong pull to feel connected and valued by the people that we deem as most important in our lives. In this way, relationships are central to our emotional, mental and physical well-being. Within a caring and supportive counselling environment, open and honest communication allows for the expression of our strengths and areas of hurt that are affecting our well-being and relationship with our self and others.

Along with my education, training and experience as a professional counsellor, I believe that my personal life experiences of being married for over 30 years and having two children who are 16 and 20 years of age, further enhances my ability to support my clients as a Kamloops Counsellor. Through my own life experiences, I am humbled by the challenges naturally inherent in developing and sustaining relationships and incredibly encouraged by the positive shifts that can take place in creating more fulfilling relationships with those who are important to us.
